Luxury Sailing Yacht
Floating in splendid isolation in the middle of the Bay of Bengal are the Andaman Islands. Administered by India, these 300 or so islands are the highest peaks of a submerged mountain range that stretches from Sumatra in the south to the Irrawaddy delta in the north.
The Andaman Islands have everything you could desire from an adventurous eco-tourism charter destination. There are literally hundreds of deserted islands to explore, each one seemingly more spectacular than the last. The beaches are magnificently pristine. The snorkeling and scuba diving are superb with an almost untouched marine ecosystem. There is a live volcano, thousands of square miles of untouched jungle, exotic and thriving wildlife and primitive hunter-gatherer tribes. The fishing (catch & release) is amongst the best in the world. The Andamans is also starting to develop a superb reputation as a frontier surfing destination where the reef breaks have never been surfed before.
ABOUT THIS EXPEDITION
Our surfing charters in the Andamans are the ultimate combination of luxury accommodation and untouched natural surrounds. Enjoy a totally flexible cruising itinerary with empty line-ups and a huge variety of waves. Many of the breaks are known only to us. During March, April and early May, winter storms far away in the southern Indian Ocean create huge swells that create perfect surf breaks on the west coast of the Andamans. By late April and early May, hurricanes further offshore in the Bay of Bengal throw an enormous swell onto the west coast of the Andaman Islands. With about 400km of deserted western and southern facing coastline the Andamans have fabulous surfing to rival Indonesia but with no other surfers for literally hundreds of miles. The surfing season is short but spectacular.
100ft sailing superyacht custom built to deliver 5 star charters in the most remote parts of South East Asia. SY Asia is a powerful, performance sailing yacht with the very best equipment. Fully MCGA compliant. An enormous fuel capacity coupled with state of the art systems makes the yacht capable of going anywhere and staying anywhere for extended periods of up to 6 months at a time.
During March, April and early May, winter storms far away in the southern Indian Ocean create huge swells that create perfect surf breaks on the west coast of the Andamans.
The Andamans west coast is one of the few places on earth where you can catch a perfect wave with no other surfers or tourists within hundreds of miles of you. All of the surf breaks in the Andaman Islands are offshore in exceptionally remote locations and are impossible to get to without a private yacht.
There’s something for everyone at the Andaman Islands. Experienced surfers will enjoy world-class breaks, whilst intermediate and beginner surfers can enjoy long green faces, all to yourselves.
The Andaman Islands have never been commercially fished. As a result, the fish life is truly incredible. As the fish in this area generally die of old age rather than being caught, they grow to a remarkable size.
In this environment is essential to fish responsibly. We keep small numbers of fish for eating but the majority of fish we catch are returned to the ocean unharmed.
THE SCUBA DIVING
Scuba diving in the Andamans is world class. With many open ocean dive sites, we tend to see large numbers of pelagics including manta rays, whale sharks, whales, and sharks.
In 2001 we were chartered by UNDP for a wide area coral reef survey of the Andaman Islands. This survey ultimately resulted in the Andaman Islands being declared a World Heritage Site.

A morning sail north from Havelock brings us to South Button Island – a tiny little rocky outcrop inhabited by 2 White Bellied Sea Eagles. This is a superb dive site with huge shoals of fish, pristine coral, enormous Napolean Wrasse and the occasional manta ray. We spend the rest of the day diving and snorkelling at South Button before moving on to the perfect “castaway” island of North Button for the night.
An early morning departure takes us to Barren Island. This remote and very active volcano has fabulous scuba diving. Around the island vertical walls drop to depths of over 2000m.
DAY 4 & 5
Spend the day diving at Barren Island. You can see practically anything here from nudibranchs to whales and everything in between. There is spectacular fringing coral that looks almost psychedelic against the backdrop of black volcanic sand. We frequently see large sharks, whales, dolphins and manta rays in this area.
Just south of Inglis Island are a series of coral ridges which stretch 20km from Minerva Ledge in the north to a series of deep water pinnacles in the south. There are an enormous number of dive sites in this area – many of which have never been dived. Spend the day diving. Great overnight anchorage at the nearby Neil Island.
Spend the day at Sir Hugh Rose island – a small uninhabited island with a magnificent white sand beach and fabulous snorkelling.
