The Carpe Novo is another upgraded sister ship of the Carpe Diem and has been built in the Maldives by the same person. The Carpe Novo is bigger than the Carpe Diem and even slightly bigger than the Carpe Vita, catering for a maximum of 21 people in 11 cabins divided over 3 decks thus providing more space. The Carpe Novo like her two “sisters” caters for cruising private charters, dedicated scuba diving, wave surfing and fishing trips for both individuals as well as groups.
Scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem like islands of the Maldives depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. Palm fringed islands with pristine beaches, turquoise lagoons, crystal clear warm water and stunning coral reefs with abundant varieties of marine life and hosting a massive variety of world class waves that are now accessible to the travelling surfer.
There are over 1,192 islands in the Maldives Republic, measuring 820 km’s north to south and 120 km’s east to west, the closest neighbors are India and Sri Lanka. People who have never been to the Maldives often have trouble comprehending that there is almost NO land. It is sea with little pockets of coral dotted on top of an old volcanic mountain range. Only 202 of the islands are inhabited; there are no hills or rivers: almost no tides, the highest point above sea level is less than 10 feet.
With dive masters and an instructor on board you will have the opportunity to complete a dive course in paradise or the freedom to dive to your limits. Carpe Diem is also setup with Nitrox diving facilities. If diving isn’t your thing then one of the dive team can take you on a guided snorkelling tour.
Although the Maldives is known for the stunning beaches and azure waters that typify the tropical idyll, its life beneath the water’s surface, which is becoming ever more respected by scuba divers in the know. The Maldives islands have some good coral reefs, but it’s the abundance of marine life throughout the country that sets it apart from other dive destinations. The water temperatures remain 27 to 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
All of our vessels are accompanied by spacious diving Dhoni (tenders), which are equipped with the latest to meet the ever-growing demands of the divers today. The Dhoni have Nitrox membrane systems providing 32%, a toilet, hot water shower, fresh water showers and camera rinsing tank.
The Carpe Diem and the Carpe Novo provide standard up to 3 dives a day versus the Carpe Vita with up to 4 dives a day.
Snorkelers are welcome too, apart from some dedicated snorkel trips; the motor yachts all have a small speed boat (dingy) available for snorkelers to go snorkelling with our crew when the divers are out diving. For private charters, itineraries and activities will be completely tailored for you.
Surfing and Paddling
Got a surf board or stand up, the crew and local surf guide will make sure you are never too far away from those postcard worthy waves you’ve always dreamed of.
During the last decade, surfing in the Maldives has attracted many surfers from all over the world. The same swells hitting Indonesia deliver the goods to the Maldives except that the latitude is a little higher and the SE exposure has less energy.
There are three main surfing areas;
- The North and South Male Atoll, the surf season runs from April to October during the South-West Monsoons. The bigger swells run from May to August with 2 to 8 ft waves on offer all season.
- Central Atoll standard waves are long and clean with size varying between 2 and 8ft as well. During southern hemisphere winter (April-October), it’s pretty much never flat.
- Southern Atolls right at the southern point of the Maldives are best for surf from February to April and from September to November, there are always waves in the area but the winds become very strong at other times of the year.
The most famous breaks are in North Male Atolls. These long points breaks offer rights and lefts, whether for low intermediates, intermediates or for professional surfers, with waves ranging from 1 to 3 meters. For beginners South Male atoll is better suited
Surf spots can be accessed a number of ways; by surf charter boat, point breaks straight off the resort or by Dhoni transferring surfers from the resorts and camps. Not all surf breaks are accessible from land.
A lot of surfers prefer surf charter boats to access the many different points in the North and South Male’ Atolls. On a boat there are no constraints and surfers can choose among the most famous breaks. But try to insure you surf Cokes, Jailbreaks (Himmafushi), Honky’s, Sultans & Tucky Joes! They are amazing waves!
Fishing has always been the lifeblood of island nations and the Maldives is no different, this place has been dubbed the ‘fishiest’ places on the planet. Pelagic species are often the favourite target although there are a lot of reef and shallow water species that will give you a run for your money like Bonefish, Barracuda, Groper, Snapper and the king of fish, the Giant Trevally. You will need some heavy duty gear to get the big GT’s found out here onto the boat.
Cruising the deep waters along the outside of the reef Yellow fin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Dolphin Fish, Wahoo, Sail Fish and Marlin all cruise these waters. With the freedom to fish off all three boats along with experienced fishing guides make sure you bring plenty of your favourite lures.
7 night, 8 day or 10 nights, 11 day options
Departing centrally located Male you have easy access to North and South Male as well as the Central Atolls. Picture perfect paradise abounds, beautiful islands, sandy beaches, untouched reefs and protected seas perfect for cruising.
With no set itinerary the crew are at your service ready to fulfil your requirements, whether it’s relaxed cruising island to island, looking for the best dive or snorkelling locations, maybe you want to fish or surf. What ever you want to do we are at your service.
