A bucket list destination most people can only dream of, scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem like islands of the Maldives depict the vision of a tropical paradise. Palm fringed islands with pristine beaches, turquoise lagoons, crystal clear warm water, stunning coral reefs and abundant varieties of marine life hosting a massive variety of world class waves that are now accessible to the travelling surfer.

There are 1,192 islands grouped in 26 coral atolls in the Maldives Republic, measuring 820 km’s north to south and 120 km’s east to west, the closest neighbours are India and Sri Lanka. People who have never been to the Maldives often have trouble comprehending that there is almost no land and the highest point above sea level is less than 10 feet.. It is sea with little pockets of coral dotted on top of an old volcanic mountain range. Only 202 of the islands are inhabited; there are no hills or rivers with little tidal movement.

Surfing and Paddling

During relatively recent times, surfing in the Maldives has attracted many surfers from all over the world. The same swells hitting Indonesia deliver the goods to the Maldives except that the latitude is a little higher and the SE exposure has less energy. It is fast becoming one of the worlds hot spots for surfing, as it is right now, with the right know how and where too, you can still find yourself surfing empty line ups,

  • Central & Southern Central Atoll chain standard waves are long and clean with size varying between 2 and 8ft. During southern hemisphere winter (April-October), it’s pretty much never flat with endless choices of waves working in all wind and swell direction. This is where we focus much of our attention. We can’t mention wave names here for good reason, but rest assured you need a boat to access most of them and will often find yourself in an empty line up.

Yoga with Mary

Marys vision for the Salty Sisters retreat is to share all of her experience, knowledge and passion of health & wellness to everyone. To teach, inspire and ignite a desire for self growth and optimal wellness in every aspect of your life.

Daliy Yoga, Pilates & group fitness classes will be designed to suit all levels.

Beginner to advanced.

Inflatable SUPs

We have a couple of inflatable SUP’s for guests to use free of charge. Great for a flat water paddle, some exercise and fun off the back of the boat.

If you have an infaltable board bring it along, the more the merrier.

*Please note that inflatable SUP’s in the Maldives get a hard time, coupled with the heat and sun we have experienced failures with multiple brands. We intend to have them available but if they sustain damage and become unusable it is unlikely we will be able to repair them in the Maldives.

Cooking Lesson

The chef welcomes you into the kitchen to learn how to make some local Maldivian dishes – curries, roti bread and fresh fish preparation. Lots of spice blends to get your taste buds watering.

Diving & Snorkelling

Although the Maldives is known for the stunning beaches and azure waters that typify the tropical idyll, its life beneath the water’s surface which has become respected by scuba divers in the know. The Maldives islands have some amazing coral reefs, but it’s the abundance of marine life throughout the country that sets it apart from other dive destinations. The water temperatures remain 27 to 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

With dive masters and an instructor available onboard, you will have the opportunity to complete a try dive or dive course in paradise with the freedom to dive to your limits as a certified diver and a Dhoni set up with Nitrox facilities. If diving isn’t your thing then one of the dive crew can take you on a guided snorkelling tour.

FREE use of snorkelling equipment. Any dives or courses can be paid on check out.

Fishing has always been the lifeblood of island nations and the Maldives is no different, this place has been dubbed the ‘fishiest’ places on the planet. Pelagic species are often the favourite target although there are a lot of reef and shallow-water species that will give you a run for your money; Bonefish, Barracuda, Grouper, Snapper and the king of fish, the Giant Trevally. You will need some heavy-duty gear to get the big GT’s onto the boat.

Cruising the deep waters along the outside of the reef; Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Dolphin Fish, Wahoo, Sail Fish and Marlin all cruise these waters. With the freedom to fish off all three boats along with eager crew, keen fisherman should bring a decent rod and plenty of your favourite lures.

Island Hopping

Inhabited local Islands

Find your feet on land for a walk or run around a local island. Most islands are small with sandy roads and tracks that can be walked around in 20-30mins. Make sure you take a drink bottle and a couple of dollars with you in case you want to buy something from the store.

To respect the Muslim culture women should dress modestly covering shoulders & knees.

Uninhabited Islands

Take some time out and stretch your legs with a walk or run around a palm fringed island beach, lay on the sand with a book or take a bag and pick up any plastic bottles that have washed up. Make sure you take a drink bottle.

No money needed, bikinis and alcoholic beverages welcome on uninhabited islands.

Movies, Books & Board Games

Adora has a fully air-conditioned lounge with large flat screen TV as well as in your cabins. These TV’s are connected to an onboard entertainment system showcasing movies and music. We also have a hard drive with pre-loaded movies, do bring a loaded USB to use on in-room TVs.

There is a small library with books and games. Book swap is welcomed.

There’s a selection of board games and always cards around the boat; Uno, Monopoly Deal some Moon Tours favourites.

Bring your camera, its hard to take a bad photo in the Maldives.

On top of the turquoise waters, sunsets, colourful palm fringed islands, bright culture and friendly locals it will have you engaged for hours.

Under water the marine life is colourful and abundant.

You may even like to try your angle of surf / action photography from the beach or surf boat. If you have a waterproof camera and you’re a confident swimmer surfers will love the in water angles.

Visit a Luxury Resort for the day

Depending on the itinerary we take, there may be an opportunity to purchase a day pass and soak up some of the luxuries on a private resort. You may like to take a massage, lay by a pool or enjoy a private dinner with your partner.

Resort passes vary from $50-$200 depending on the resort.

Subject to resort availability and cruising schedule.

Donate to Local School or Kinder Garden

We like to arrange visits to a local primary school or kinder garden. It is a great way to meet the people and experience some friendly and happy culture.

Donations of sporting equipment; tennis rackets, soccer balls, crayons, and pencils are most welcomed and appreciated by the teachers and kids.

Supplies can be purchased on a local island or Male. Always nice to support local business rather than bringing that kind of thing from Australia we reckon.

Sunova Surfboards are the manufacturers of high performance composite sandwich surfboards. Under the tutelage of Shaper of the Year, and legendary shaper Bert Burger, Sunova have been pioneering the use of parabolic balsa rails and veneer skinned surfboards for over 20 years. Originating out of Mandurah, Western Australia, Bert has been leading the way in lightweight surfboards built with an emphasis on strength and flex to create epoxy surfboards which are not only strong surfboards lasting much longer than the industry standard PU boards, but high performance surfboards.

We’ve got you covered, we have a range of boards between 112L – 148L available for early bird bookings at USD$100 FOR 7 DAYS.

Subject to availability at the time of booking.

Please note we do not supply paddles or leg ropes.

Terms & Conditions of SUNOVA SUPs

If you plan on bringing your own board our boards cannot be allocated for back up boards and sole use. Any boards that have not been allocated for sole use will be available to use and demo from time to time throughout the tour.

Supplied boards are subject to availability and may change without notice or become unavailable. When you are allocated one of our boards that board will be considered yours for the entire trip. If you decide to let others use the board or swap boards around that is up to you. Consider the board yours and treat it as if it as such for the entire charter.

If you are trying, demoing or using any of the SUNOVA SUPs in our range it is your responsibility to inspect the board for damage before use. If you find any damage prior to use you need to let a Moon Tours representative know before use.  Any damage found will be billed to the person who last used the board.

Minimum repair cost $100USD for minor repairs carried out on the trip.

Allocated surfers will be responsible for any repairs, professional or otherwise regardless of who or how the board is damaged. As it would be if it were your own board.

Major repairs on boards that need to be hand carried to Australia and repaired by professionals will incur further costs. Minimum charge $200USD

If the board is a write off, i.e. creased or snapped the allocated surfer will be responsible for the full second hand market value of the board.

It is your board for the trip and you will be responsible for it. If you believe someone else is responsible for damaging the board allocated to you Moon Tours will seek repair costs from you, the person the board is allocated too and it will be your responsibility to seek compensation from third parties if  you choose.

Unfortunately we do not have the ability to make professional repairs in the Maldives. If the damage is minor and we can patch the board up to keep you on the water that does not constitute a professional repair.

 7 nights – 8 days

Arriving on the day you will be met by an Adora and or a Moon Tours representative as you exit the international arrivals area. If you are arriving the day before you will not be a representative to meet you arrival.

10:am on the day we will gather at Male Airport in front of Coffee Club / Burger King, where you will board Adora shortly after. Its a small airport so its easy to find us.

*If you can not arrive by 10am on day one, you will need to arrive the day before and overnight in Male or Hulhule Male as well as arrange your own way there and back to the airport. We can assist. See FAQs for accomodation options.

Our tours start and end in Male harbour, close to here you will find the island nations most famous waves in nearby North Male Atoll, along with most of the boats and a bunch of land based surf resorts and hostels combining together to cause massive congestion in the line ups. It is rare for us to surf this area. Here you will find; Jailbreaks, Sultans, Cokes, Ninja’s, Honky’s and private resort waves like Pastor Point.

SUP / surfers will prefer our favourite waves in the central  and southern central atolls, most only accessible by boat. These breaks have less crowds and offer perfect fuller waves and long rides to suit all levels. In short, it’s SUP / longboard heaven. They can still hold some size but remain very ripable on a SUP.

Our onbaord PADI dive school will have you diving and snorkelling the most beauitful dive sites enroute, typically you will have the opportunity to do one or two dives a day, execpt for the first & last days.

Yoga & pilates classes with Mary will be deterimed by the overall group ability and level, a combination or sweaty roof top workouts, nightly yin or meditations, group work outs on the sand & SUP Yoga. You are welcome to partake in as many or few classes as you like.

Maximum relaxation is a must on any holiday make sure you pack a book, a face mask, hair treatment & some magazines for down time and pampering.

A boat trip should be flexible, not locked into strict daily miles or locations. Our trips are based around mother natures plans for the swell and wind. Because of this we are ultimately flexible up until the last minute and during the whole trip.

With a massive fuel and mileage allowance we have the luxury to travel further than any standard charter, that gets you away from the crowds and into the best waves. Rest assured, you will get what you are looking for with this outstanding boat, experienced crew, local surf guide and Moon Tours representatives that know the area well.

If conditions and cruising timing works out a morning surf will be offered before departing Adora at 11am at Male Airport. Any flights booked after 1pm will be safe.
If you would like to catch an earlier flight out of Male a private speedboat transfer can be arranged from our last mornings surf location. Allow USD$200 private transfer. A water taxi maybe available for $50 depending on the final nights location.
Maldives Beach BBQ

Watch our professional chefs cooking through a viewing window next to the bar, they will serve up three tasty meals a day as well as some pre and post surf snacks. If for some reason you haven’t had your fill, let us know and we can have something whipped up for you.

The menu covers a wide range of different international cuisines blended together for you to enjoy. Using the freshest and local ingredients available. A variety of meat & vegetarian meals will be available. Fresh fruit, vegetables and energising meals to keep you surfing longer.

With prior notice, special dietary requests can be catered for as well as any special occasion; birthday celebrations, anniversaries or maybe it’s special family and friends holidaying together.

Dine with your toes in the sand with a beach BBQ on a deserted island, in the comfort of the fully air conditioned dining room or opt for private roof top dinner under the stars with your partner.

Adora has the best value bar prices in the Maldives! Up to 50% on comparison. But don’t drink too much, we don’t want you to miss out on epic waves. At the end of the day though, it is your holiday and you can do what you want 😉

2 beers, wines or soft drinks per day are included for each guest. Any additional beverages purchased are charged upon check out and can be settled with a credit card or USD cash.

Top shelf liquor, wine and bubbly can be pre-purchased subject to availability on the proviso the whole bottle is purchased up front on the boat regardless of whether or not the bottle is finished. Orders need to be placed within four weeks of the start date.

You have a few options but if it’s Surfboards and Surf SUP’s you want to bring then we recommend flying with Singapore Airlines or Air Asia to Male who have been taking boards up to 9’6 for us and our clients since 2017 without incident.
Singapore Airlines leave regularly from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane – Male via Singapore. Singapore Airlines have a generous standard allowance with up to 30kg / 9’6 max length in economy. Don’t go over the limit though, you can not pre-purchase additional luggage and excess is charged at $42USD per kilo.
Air Asia leave regularly from Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast via Kuala Lumpur.
Air Asia offer pre-purchased additional sporting allowance making it easier to bring multiple boards.

The easiest way to get to the Maldives is through Dubai on Emirates who take boards up to 300cm / 10′.
Emirates fly regularly from Los Angeles – Dubai – Male, the shortest route takes about 27hrs including stops.

Please see itinerary details for your boats departure/arrival times, you may be required to arrive the day before to align with departure times.

*Remember to double check your airlines luggage allowance, we can not be held responsible for any refusal you may encounter from an airline.

If you are in Australia our travel agent Brett Robinson has looked after our client’s flights for a couple of years now. He knows exactly what you need. You can contact him directly when you are ready to get some flight quotes. Let him know you are traveling with Moon Tours and if he needs any additional information he can contact us as well.

We recommend you arrive the day before to ensure you are on time for departure, you can sleep off any jet lag and unwind a little before jumping into the water for a surf.

Please note Brett can only book Air Asia with an additional fee, the budget carrier is an online direct booking only service.

Lightweight clothing is best. Prepare for hot & humid conditions. To respect the Muslim culture women should dress modestly covering shoulders & knees however the airport is very westernized.

If you have time to spare you might like to visit the bustling Male City. Take the local ferry, approx $1US each way or a cab across the new bridge linking the two islands together, approx $10USD each way. The ferry ticket booth is in front of the Coffee Club/Burger King and taxis can be easily accessed at the airport taxi rank.

Alternatively, you can take a 15min bus ride around to Hulhule Male where it is much quieter. There are nice restaurants & cafes along the beach. Note there are no bikinis on this beach.

At the Hulhule Island Hotel by the airport, you can purchase a pool pass (bikini friendly) for a swim, a cold beer and somewhere to relax if need be. There is a frequent free shuttle to the hotel from the front of the airport.

Whether you are arriving the day before your tour or you have a few hours to fill, you can store your boards at the airport in the luggage room upon arrival – $12 a day, we will pick them up when we board the yacht.

Easy to find, when you walk outside the arrivals doors turn left and you will see the storage office about 100 meters away. Next door to the public toilets.

Almost all Visitors get a 30 days Visa on arrival at no charge. Visitors entering the Republic of Maldives should fulfill the following requirement for the grant of an entry permit into the country. Valid international travel document issued by the Government of a Sovereign State. Return air ticket. Minimum of US$30.00 per person per day or confirmed hotel reservation.

*It is important to double check the Visa requirements of the country you are travelling from and your passport country of origin.

Non surfers welcomed. Bring your partner, friends and family, there are lots of activities to entertain everyone.

Children 13+ welcome, anyone younger will be considered upon application.

If you have 10+ in your family / group ask about a group discount and the options of a private charter.

“Coconut Tree Hulhuvilla” Beach provides a comfortable setting in Hulhule male.
It offers clean simple accommodation with air-conditioned rooms and satellite TV. Recently refurbished you get free Wi-Fi and very basic breakfast. Room service can be ordered from the adjoining hotel. Under different names but the same company, you will need to settle room service bills at the time.

A hotel airport shuttle or taxi can be pre-arranged with reception to and from the airport for $10.

The breakfast is very basic, we recommend walking to a nearby cafe like ‘Family Room’ or ‘Bread Matters’, they both do a lovely breakfast.

NOTE: No alcohol is served here

“Simry Beachside Maldives” is another option which is next door to Coconut Tree.

Simry Beachside Maldives offers 3-star accommodation in Male. It also provides massage services, room service, express check-in and check-out feature.

On-site dining options include a restaurant which is an ideal spot to have a meal within a 10-minute drive of Male International Airport.

NOTE: No alcohol is served here

Pack your favorite SUP. It’s easy to travel with boards up to 9’6, with some airlines claiming up to 9’8 and even 10′ – make sure you check with your airline before booking flights.

For easy traveling with multiple SUPs, we use and recommend ‘ Flying Objects SUP roller bags’ they come in a few sizes 8’0, 8’6, 9’0, 9’6. Check with your local SUP shop.

  • Bring your shortboard, mini mal, foil, bodyboard whatever surf craft you like
  • Warm water/tropical wax
  • Leg rope; plus a spare
  • Fins; plus spares
  • Paddle; plus a spare if you have one
  • Fishing, rod lures

On local inhabited islands, it is respectful for all women to cover your shoulders and knees while walking the streets and visiting local establishments.
  • Sun protection UV Rash guards x 2 min – The sun is HOT. We would be very very surprised if anyone needed any kind of wetsuit or neoprene tops while surfing, paddling, swimming, and snorkelling. Should you like a wetsuit for diving we can provide one on the boat with prior notice.
  • Sun / Surf Hat & Sunglasses
  • Drink Bottles. You will be given your own reusable water bottle on board with access to unlimited filtered water and ice. If you have an insulated drink bottle do bring it along.
  • Hydralyte ia great to have in your water bottle while being active in the tropics.
  • Lots of sunscreen; please think ocean-friendly products, like SurfMud which also offers the best protection for your face.
  • Beach towels, bath towel, shampoo & soap are provided. BYO any other personal toiletries and medication. Please think of ocean friendly products when choosing your toiletries.

All travelers must take out their own personal travel insurance at the time of booking to cover any missed service or cancellations for any reason.

When choosing your cover you might first look at your equipment cover when actually you should be looking at medical cover and emergency medical evacuation. This is the number one thing to consider when booking any travel insurance.

We recommend Cover More if your traveling from Australia.

It’s always a good idea to have some cash, whether it’s USD or local Rufiyaa. You never know when you might need it.

If you are heading to Male or want to shop on local islands we recommend getting some local currency (Rufiyaa), it will come in handy. The coins, in particular, are quite attractive and make an interesting souvenir themselves, but the smaller denominations are rarely used or seen.

You can get major currencies exchanged at the airport on arrival at the forex exchange in
